Lary
W. Troutner, 56, Lafayette, Indiana, died at
5:25 p.m. Tuesday, May 24, 2011 in his home of
ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig's Disease.
He was born September 6, 1954, in VanNuys,
California, the son of Fran Neaderheiser
Troutner Melson of Bonners Ferry and the late J.
Roger Troutner.
Lary attended UCLA and then transferred to
Purdue University and graduated with a
bachelor’s degree in 1976. He married Joanne
Johnson on May 17, 1975, in Gaston, Indiana and
she survives. He served in the United State Air
Force from 1978 to 1981 and received his
Master’s degree in 1981 from the University of
North Dakota.
He then returned to the Greater Lafayette area
and worked at Purdue University for 28 years,
most of his career as the Director of Financial
Affairs and lastly as the Business Process
Manager.
Lary has served on the Board of Lafayette
Transitional Housing, had served as President of
the Board of Shared Enterprise Management, Inc.
when the Howarth Center was built. Lary’s
memberships include the Central Association of
College & University Business Officers, the John
Purdue Club, the President’s Council at Purdue,
and WBAA.
He enjoyed playing golf and all sports in
general.
Surviving with his wife is one brother, Marty
and wife Lynette Troutner of Pleasant Hill,
California, his mother and his two dogs, Suzy
and Sammy. He was preceded in death by his
father and one brother, Russell.
The family suggests memorial contributions be
made to the Lary W. Troutner Scholarship c/o the
Purdue Research Foundation at Purdue University
or Lafayette Transitional Housing. The family
will gather to celebrate Lary’s life on
Thursday, June 2, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the
Hippensteel Tribute Center, 2529 Schuyler Ave.
