Saturday "elf" matinee a great chance to shop
December 15, 2017
The Pearl Theater, along with the Bonners Ferry Chamber of Commerce and the Bonners Ferry Rotary, are sponsoring a free movie Saturday, and it’s a take on the golden days when the Rex Theater used to offer a free holiday movie each year.

It's a great time for the parents of older kids or, as one parent must accompany children under 10, for the other parent to sneak away to some of Boundary County's wonderful shops or stores to get some Christmas shopping done!

The Pearl, with help from the Chamber, are working together to host occasional movie nights, and as soon as we get details, we'll share the news!

Elf is a 2003 American Christmas fantasy comedy film directed by Jon Favreau and written by David Berenbaum. It stars Will Ferrell, James Caan, Zooey Deschanel, Mary Steenburgen, Daniel Tay, Edward Asner and Bob Newhart.

The story is about one of Santa's elves (Ferrell) who learns he is actually a human and goes to New York City to meet his biological father (Caan), spreading Christmas cheer in a world of cynics as he goes.

The film was released in the United States on November 7, 2003, by New Line Cinema. It received positive reviews from critics and inspired the 2010 Broadway musical "Elf: The Musical" and NBC's 2014 stop-motion animated television special "Elf: Buddy's Musical Christmas." It is often cited as one of the best Christmas films.

The Pearl Theater doors open at 12:30 p.m. Saturday and "elf," which lasts an hour and 37 minutes, starts at 1 p.m. The Pearl Theater is located at 7160 Ash Street, Bonners Ferry, just across the tracks and under the overpass from all the fine shopping downtown and throughout Boundary County!

Kids 10 and under must be accompanied by an adult.

For Saturday's matinee, Rotary is paying for the movie and the Chamber is providing children gifts of books, candy canes and “cutie” oranges paid for by the Boundary County Library, Riverside Auto Center and Boundary Abstract.
