Already midterm at BFHS
December 13, 2017
By Principal Kevin Dinning

We are cruising through the year at Bonners Ferry High School! I struggle to believe it is already midterm of second quarter, and we are quickly approaching the midpoint of the school year. I am proud of the staff and students at BFHS. Great work is happening here.

Our greenhouse is up, and we are excited to be working out the last few hurdles to put the finishing touches on that project. We would not have seen this project carried out if it was not for the hard work of our Ag and FFA students and staff. We owe a huge thank you to all those who were part of fundraising efforts that allowed the purchase of this building. We appreciate all of the community support, and we look forward to using the greenhouse to prepare students and to benefit the community.

A big thanks to the FFA Alumni for their contribution and support. We are grateful to have a such an amazing resource in the greenhouse, and we are honored to be a focus of community support. We could not have done it without you!

Counseling has requested that if any students are interested in Dual Credit, those students need to see Mrs. Mackey ASAP. Mrs. Anderson and Mrs. Mackey are working hard to meet with students and get course requests for next year. When those course request forms are distributed to students, they need to by signed by their parent/guardian.

We are well into our winter sports seasons, and I am impressed with all our teams. If you have not been out to a basketball game or a wrestling match, I encourage you to do so. We have seen some great competition this winter.

There are many opportunities before our winter break to interact with our students outside of athletics, and I hope to see you at some of them. Some noteworthy opportunities to attend:
  • Band Concert on December 14 at 7 p.m. in the Becker Auditorium.
  • BFHS Parent/Teacher Conferences on December 18 from 4:45 to 7:15 p.m.
  • Choir Concert on December 18 at 7 p.m. in the Becker Auditorium.

Don’t forget! We are collecting ham/turkey donations to give to those who need them. We are looking to collect 100, and we will take any frozen turkey or ham donations to the high school on December 21. They will be distributed over the holiday.

Other noteworthy happenings:
  • National Honor Society is putting on a Holiday Craft Sale for Valley View Students on December 21; make sure you thank an NHS member for their work with the Valley View Students. We love to see our students give back.
  • BFHS Independent and Advanced Art Students are submitting work to the University of Idaho State Wide Art Show. Scholarships and awards are on deck for our students that enter. The show takes place February 23, and our students have received second, third and honorable mention honors in the past.
  • Robotics Kickoff for the 2018 Season is January 6 at 7:30 a.m, in the Robotics Center. All are welcome. The high school team supported at the FIRST Lego League Qualifying Tournament last weekend. Both Middle School teams now advance to state, and it was another wonderful example of support from the high school.

Lastly, we have a great group of staff members at BFHS.

BFHS teachers are putting in hard work and striving for excellence. We are committed to reducing the number of Fs, providing instruction that drives learning and graduating high level citizens. Our teachers are committed to seeing this vision carried out, and I am grateful for their hard work and commitment.

Happy Holidays to all of you. We will see you on the other side of the New Year!
