A week at the Restorium |

Let me say right off that on any given day at
the Restorium, you will find enough activity and
activities to assure you that this place is “hummin'.”
Every morning there’s an exercise program aimed
at our residents staying as fit as possible.
As we age movement needs to be a priority,
keeping our maximum physical health.
Monday mornings a red-hot bingo session keeps
the “ole noggin hoppin” which is such a fun way
to promote maximum mental flexibility. Monday
afternoons our guys and gals have a wonderful
time bowling.
Young people from Echo Springs come to set the
“bowling alley” and away we go. Some Monday
evenings various folks from the community bring
us entertainment. Bus rides on the Spot Bus on
Tuesday mornings is a favorite with all.
Who can live in this gorgeous area and not
marvel as we ride? So we do marvel.
Twice a month the Mennonite Singers bless us
with their gospel music. They are so good and so
faithful. Also on Tuesdays, if we need to go
shopping, transportation is available. We
appreciate our excellent and patient staff who
are so helpful on the shopping sprees.
Wednesdays are full with craft opportunities and
we are hoping to start a reading group to talk
about books we’ve read and enjoyed. Once a month
we have an ice cream social -- yum!
Thursday is “Beauty Day.” Talented women from
the community come and perform all the beauty
functions, hair care, nails, etc. And Wow! The
Friends of the Restorium have completely updated
our salon! The room is a work of art.
The County Library sends a volunteer to provide
books of interest for those of us who read.
Reading is a popular pastime for many of us. We
can send our minds on wonderful trips from our
room.
Most Fridays we are blessed with special music
and Bible study for those who wish to
participate. This comes with refreshments of
good cookies and other treats lovingly made by
hand at home. It doesn’t get better than that.
We also celebrate special occasions on Fridays:
birthdays, holidays, etc.
Saturday is movie and popcorn day. Reminds us of
Saturday matinees when we were kids (and,
surprise, we were kids once, even if the
memories are kind of hazy!)
Community churches bring music and worship to us
on Sundays. We appreciate very much the
services.
So, this is the way the weeks go here at the
Restorium. Because the Boundary County community
is deeply invested in the facility, I thought
you might enjoy knowing how days and weeks are
spent. But now, I am going to talk about the
heart of our Restorium, the remarkable people
who take care of us with heart, mercy and truly
amazing patience!
And believe me, as we age, we need this
attitude. Everyone is aware that aging is “not
for sissies,” but few recognize how vitally
important it is for aging people to be treated
with respect so as to retain their dignity.
The staff and care people here simply deserve an
A+ at treating us in this very necessary way.
Our living environment is homey and the décor is
attractive. Holidays and special days are
celebrated and decorated much as we would do at
our own homes. Every effort is made to insure
that our environment is clean and free of odors.
Safety measures are up to date. Our laundry is
done (what a blessing that is!) Changing needs
of residents are met with compassion. Special
care is met quickly. Medications are monitored
and physician and nursing, as well as physical
therapy and care are attended to with dedication
and promptness that is so important when one is
in need.
Then there is our “home cookin'.”
Our kitchen staff do their culinary best to
insure that both our health and our palettes are
attended to with tender loving care.
Well, folks, our annual barbecue, silent auction
and our annual luau were whopping successes with
everyone having a great time.
So with the memory of this summer’s fun fresh in
