Long Bridge Swim canceled due to wind
August 5, 2017
For the first time in its 23 year history, swimmers had to be kept out of the water today for the Long Bridge Swim in Sandpoint due to high winds.

As over 700 swimmers waited on shore, 90 safety kayakers and several on jet skis were on the water and having trouble, with a few of the kayaks flipping in the white-capped water and several jet skis taking on water.

According to Tammy Blanford, Bonners Ferry, who was waiting to swim, the Sheriff's Marine Patrol attempted a practice rescue and were unable due to the waves, prompting cancelation of the swim.
