Brittany Spangler ends eventful year
April 26, 2017
Reigning Bonners Ferry Distinguished Young Woman Brittany Spangler will take the stage at the Becker Auditorium one final time on April 29 to welcome a new recipient of the title. The year past has brought many opportunities to represent Bonners Ferry and the Distinguished Young Women Program.

Brittany attended numerous parades in the northwest, performed a reading at the Memorial Day ceremony, orchestrated Be Your Best Self Workshops with local youth, presented awards at the annual Rod Bender’s Car Show, and spoke at the opening ceremony of the Boundary County Fair.

Last October, Brittany and 39 other representatives from around the state traveled to Idaho Falls, where they spent one week learning routines in preparation for the state competition. The final result was many new friendships, great memories and character building.

This month brings the end of a great adventure and brings Brittany’s Distinguished Young Woman experience full circle, as she helps prepare the current group of participants for the upcoming program.

"One of the most rewarding and beneficial decisions I have made was to participate in Distinguished Young Women," Brittany said. "I never thought I would find myself on stage participating in a three month journey with ten other girls. I never really understood what I was capable of doing and this program helped me with that. I now have the ability to be interviewed, talk in front of crowds, make friends and be my best self. This program allowed me to represent our community in parades, various community activities and guest speaking opportunities. Competing at the Idaho State DYW Program opened my eyes to what all the opportunities this program has given me and it helped me understand that I am capable of doing great things. DYW gave me scholarship opportunities, 39 friends all across Idaho, 11 close friendships with the girls in my senior class, confidence, qualities to become my better self, community awareness, and lifelong memories.”

Brittany is the daughter of Christopher and Kelly Jo Spangler. She has one sister, Sierra. After graduation, Brittany is planning to attend University of Idaho to pursue a bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Education and Business. After that, she plans to attend North Idaho College to study Welding.

Ultimately Brittany plans to pursue a career as an agriculture educator or welding instructor.

This year’s program is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Saturday, April 29, at Bonners Ferry High School's Becker Auditorium in Bonners Ferry. Tickets are $12 each and are currently on sale at Mountain Mike’s, 6486 Main Street, Bonners Ferry.
