Students at BFHS are working hard to navigate
the quick approach to the completion of the
2016-2017 school year. We are just beginning our
state testing schedule, and we are looking
forward to seeing the success our students show
on those tests. Nearly all of our 11th grade
students completed the SAT in the last couple of
weeks, and those that have not will be looking
to take the make-up SAT this week or on the next
National SAT day in May.
Our spring sports season is going well, and
would be much nicer for a lot of us if the
weather would hold some more sunshine.
Regardless of the wet weather, the track,
baseball and softball teams are all in the
running or currently holding the top spot in the
IML. Golf is struggling to get competition and
practice to take place on a course that does not
have standing water on it. However, I am still
seeing students ready to golf, and they are
excited about the opportunity to see some
sunshine on the course.
Districts for spring sports will take place in
the first couple weeks of May, and I encourage
you come support our student athletes.
BFHS Awards Night for Seniors will be on
Thursday, June 1, with graduation on Saturday,
June 3, and we are excited to recognize our
students through scholarship and achievement.
On a student recognition type note, Grace
Coughlin and Kevin Gray have been selected by
our staff to represent BFHS at NISTAR, North
Idaho Student Teacher Achievement Recognition,
on May 8 in Coeur d’Alene. It is an honor as a
student to be recognized, and it is an honor to
be recognized by our students, as have Tess Nix
and Joe Stockdale.
The Distinguished Young Women Program will be
taking place at BFHS on Saturday, April 25, at
6:30 p.m. Get your tickets now if you there are
any left! Our students taking part in this
program have put in a lot of time and hard work
to get to the culminating event on Saturday, and
I know they appreciate the communities support.
On May 4, BFHS students will participate in a
program that highlights the dangers of
distracted or impaired driving with a mock
accident. This program has been planned in a
joint effort with police, fire, ambulance,
hospital, school staff and volunteers to
showcase the dangers of impaired driving and
encourage students to make safe decisions as we
enter a time of the school year filled with
celebrations like prom, graduation and senior
trip.
Our participation in this program is in effort
to make sure that we have not missed an
opportunity to influence our students and staff
to make decisions with forethought that can
ultimately save lives. If you have a student at
BFHS who you do not want to participate in this
program, please, have your student bring home an
opt-out permission slip.
I encourage you to support our students through
participation and support of any program we
sponsor whether it be by attending a golf match,
our Film Clubs student film competition at
Becker Auditorium at 7 p.m. on Friday, May 12,
or graduation on June 3.
