South Boundary Fire Chief Tony Rorhwasser was not only the top fundraiser for the 2017 Bonners Ferry Penguin Plunge, he was one of the few who also stayed warm!
This year’s Bonners Ferry Penguin Plunge was a huge success with 64 jumpers plunging in the Kootenai River to support Special Olympics. Certainly a good time was had by all with approximately 140 people present.

Teams and single jumpers gathered pledges to take the plunge, with the group raising over $4,000 for Idaho Special Olympics. Jumpers were judged on spirit, costume, most money raised and the judge’s choice and received gifts for their participation.

This year’s Spirit Award went to the Distinguished Young Woman’s group, costume awards were #1; Tom Cheny, #2; Marciavee Cossette, and #3; the Pink Flamingos. Most money raised was by South Boundary Fire Chief Tony Rohrwasser, with $1,000 in pledges.

Donations for the event came from Dennis Dinning from Pepsico, Super One, Safeway, Sue Wilson, Wal-Mart, North Idaho Spas, who provided the hot tub for the cold jumpers to warm in, Captain Genny Hoyle and her safety boat and Bonners Ferry Sign Company for updating our banner.

The winner of this year's 50/50 drawing was Brian Rae from General Feed and Grain. Brian donated his $150 winnings back to Special Olympics. Thank you, Brian!

Photos of the event, which are normally uploaded to Flicker, were posted on the Bonners Ferry Penguin Plunge Facebook page, which you can reach by clicking here.
