BCSD fiscal responsibility taken to the next level
March 6, 2017
By Superintendent Gary Pflueger

Early this year, Boundary County School District 101 formed the Budget and Financial Understanding Committee. This group, listed below, is made up of five community members, four teachers, two administrators, one board member and our new business manager.

The purpose of the committee is to improve the education of students by providing recommendations to the Board of Trustees concerning financial issues facing Boundary County School District.

During the beginning of the year, this group focused on the need of the Supplemental M&O Levy. Future meetings will be dedicated to digging deeper into the revenues and expenses of the general fund.

Any recommendations made by the Budget and Finance Committee will be given careful consideration by the board, but such recommendations will not relieve the board of its legal responsibility to make final decisions about such matters.

The Budget and Finance Committee meets in the District Office on the first Monday of each month at 6 p.m. They will hold open discussion of the Annual State Report sent to the Department of Education and Annual Audit completed by Leonard Schulte. These monthly reports can be found on the district website.

These meetings are open to the public.

The committee is a distinguished and impressive group that includes David Walter, Cal Russell, Greg Johnson, Merle Ansley, Deborah Youngwirth, Luke Omodt, Josh Knaggs, Rita Vannoy, Jacob Garrison, Nathan Williams, Robin Merrifield, David Brinkman and Cal Bateman. I serve as the group facilitator.

I look forward to working closely with this fine group in an effort to answer any questions of our financial status and future growth of BCSD.
