A group of Boundary County Middle School eighth graders and their chaperones boarded a bus early this morning and traveled to the courthouse in Spokane, where they took part in a region-wide mock trial competition.

When it was through, the Bonners Ferry students brought home awards for best witness and best attorney, with both sides winning their cases.

Team coach Kelly Hinthorn sends out huge thank yous to Ron Sukenik and Dennis Weed for mentoring and coaching this group, and to her husband, Travis Hinthorn for coaching her basketball team today.

Alisa Hannaman to the award for best attorney, and Ally Martin won for best witness. Also participating in the competition were Lily Blackmore, Kira Carla-Hull, Jacob Clark, Hannah Facha, Aleah Jones, Chance Madden, Emmet Melior, Shayla Poppino, Morgan Swanson, Jasper Tompkins, Madicyn Weddington, Kerrie Whitener and Zane Carver.

"You should all be very proud of these kids," Kelly said. "Both sides won their cases, and we took home the award for best witness and attorney. The day way an amazing learning experience for all of us ... It's a good day to be a Badger!"
