County kids shine at annual spelling bee
January 28, 2017
Third through fifth graders from around the county gathered this morning at the Free Methodist Church to compete in this year's spelling bee.
Bonners Ferry Rotary was proud to sponsor the 2017 Annual District Spelling Bee for Boundary County. Elementary school students in third, fourth and fifth grades went to the Free Methodist Church in Bonners Ferry for the oral competition this morning.

In a collaborative effort, volunteers from the Bonners Ferry Rotary, Naples Helping Hands, Free Methodist Church and Boundary County School District 101 helped students traverse their way through the competition.

For each grade, students who took first place won a $30 gift card to Bonners Books and second place students won a $20 gift card to Bonners Books.

Students in fourth and fifth grades who took first will be invited to the Regional Spelling Bee to be held March 18 at the North Idaho College campus in Coeur d'Alene.

The students were well prepared for the competition and worked really hard in each of their divisions. Thanks to the parents who worked so hard with their children!

This year's winners were: 3rd Grade - 1st Place: Jacoby Wenzel, 2nd Place: Brodie Bustillios; 4th Grade - 1st Place: Rylie Kimball, 2nd Place Myah Francis; 5th Grade - 1st Place: Ana Chase, 2nd Place: Chris Meyer
