Areal flood watch issued
January 17, 2017
The National Weather Service has issued an areal flood watch for North Idaho and northeast Washington, in effect from Wednesday morning through late Thursday night.

A period of moderate to heavy rain is expected tonight, lasting through Thursday night, and will be accompanied by above freezing temperatures.

With widespread mid and low elevation snow, the resulting runoff may be enough to cause localized flooding issues which may be exacerbated in areas where soils are frozen and where storm drains and ditches are clogged with snow and ice.

Ice jams on frozen rivers and creeks are also a possibility.

Those in low-lying or flood prone areas are encouraged to takes steps to secure property and possessions from flood damage and motorists are reminded not to drive on water covered roads.
