In light of the recent incident involving two Boise Police officers who were shot while in the line of duty, Idaho State Police extends its deepest sympathies to the families of the officers involved, and the entire Boise Police Department.

In support of Boise Police Chief William Bones' recent invitation to school children from across Idaho to write cards and letters of support to the officers and their families, the Idaho State Police, in cooperation with the Boise Police Department, will be serving as a collection point around the state for any cards or letters that members of the public would like sent to the two wounded Boise Police officers.

At about 12:45 p.m. Friday, November 11, a citizen called and reported seeing the vehicle and the suspect involved in a Meridian carjacking and shooting traveling in Boise. A second report came in shortly after and officers began searching for the vehicle in the area north of Orchard and Overland.

Officers spotted the vehicle but lost it as it drove erratically north on Orchard near Franklin.

Citizens were able to keep pointing officers in the right direction as police searched for the vehicle. Two officers soon saw the suspect walking down the street and the suspect took off running through a nearby neighborhood.

Police immediately set up a secure perimeter in the area of Irving near Roosevelt and Wilson. The Special Operations Unit was activated at that time because of the belief that the suspect could be armed. Once the SOU arrived, they along with a police K-9 began a slow search through the nearby homes and yards.

At around 3:30 p.m., officers encountered the suspect, who was hiding, and shots were fired. Two Boise police officers and a police K-9 were shot by the suspect.

Four Boise Police officers fired at the suspect. The suspect was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Tonight at 6:30pm, a Candlelight Vigil will be held at the Idaho Peace Officers’ Memorial. Boise Police will be there in support of all law enforcement and to show support for BPD Corporal Kevin Holtry.

Corporal Kevin Holtry, a 17-year veteran of the Boise PD, was shot multiple times. His condition, still critical, continues to slightly improve day by day at St. Alphonsus Regional Medical Center. Fellow officer Corporal Chris Davis, a 16-year department veteran, and police K9 Jardo were also shot and are now recovering at home.
