January's "Golden Stand recipients in Jessica
Hannah's band classes were Austin Kemmis, BFHS
band, Jenny Owens and Ashley Blackmore, both in
advanced band, and Zap Andrejczak and Loren
Huggins, both in intermediate band!
Members of the BFHS Jazz Band are at the North
Idaho College Jazz Festival today, where they
will work with University of Idaho Percussion
Professor Daniel Bukvich, University of Idaho
Trombone Professor and conductor of the Wind
Ensemble Alan Gemberling and Whitworth Professor
of Jazz and Trumpet Gary Gemberling.
Students will have the opportunity to hear other
jazz bands from Coeur d’Alene, Sandpoint and
Spokane, and the event will wrap up this evening
with a finale performance from the NIC Jazz
Band.
The high school and advanced bands are thrilled
to have the opportunity to attend the Boise
State Band Clinic February 20 through 24.
Students will work with Dr. David Booth,
Director of Bands and Wind Conducting Studies at
Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio, and
Marcellus Brown, Director of Bands at Boise
State.
Students will also tour Idaho’s Capitol
Building, the Old Idaho Penitentiary, World
Center for Birds of Prey, and attend the Lionel
Hampton Jazz Festival.
March is going to be a busy month for the bands!
The Solo and Ensemble Festival takes place March
10 in Post Falls, Large Group Preparation
Concert at 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 6 in the Becker
Auditorium, the Large Group Festival at NIC
March 15, and, for the first time ever, a Swing
Jazz Concert in collaboration with the BFHS
Honor Choir at 7 p.m. March 20 in the Becker
Auditorium at Bonners Ferry High School. |
