Palmer
City Councilwoman Edna DeVries will kick off her campaign for
Alaska Senate Seat F with a reception from 4 to 6 p.m. in the
meeting room at Turkey Red, S550 Alaska Street, Palmer.
DeVries, who is an instructor at Charter College, Wasilla, and a
Realtor at Alaska Realty and Investments, is running on a
platform of limited government, protection of the unborn and
aged, protection of the Second Amendment, blocking federal
overreach into state affairs, responsible resource development
and Alaska jobs for Alaskans.
Seat F represents a district including Palmer, Butte, Lazy
Mountain, Gateway, Fairview, Peters Creek, Chugiak, Palmer
Fishhook and Trunk.
Edna, a Republican, has long been active politically, having
served in the state senate in the mid-1980s, and as former
Mat-Su Borough Mayor and assembly member.
In addition to her seat on the Palmer City Council, she also
serves as a board member on the Alaska Municipal League and as
vice-chair on the Governor's Commission on Aging.
She is currently also president of the Valley Republican Women
Club and, a devout Christian, she is a greeter at King's Chapel.
The 2014 primary election will be held August 19; the general
election is November 14. If she prevails in both, she would be
seated in the Alaska Senate in January, 2015.
Donations to her campaign may be made through Elect Edna, N305
Bonanza Street, Palmer, AK 99645. She will not accept
contributions from PACs or corporations, but only individual
donors. |
