The story published on this site September 21 on a
snowmobile stolen from a Meadow Lakes home, derived from an
Alaska State Trooper press release, gave the facts, but not
quite all of them.
"At about 8:33 a.m. today, Alaska State Troopers responded to a
Karen Street home in Meadow Lakes, where a snowmobile had been
reported stolen," it read. "The orange and white 2013 Polaris
Assault 800, they learned, had been taken from a detached garage
sometime overnight, and investigators believe that whoever took
it also walked across the street and stole a pair of binoculars
from an unlocked vehicle parked in a driveway.
"Anyone who may have seen suspicious activity in the area or who
may have information is asked to call Mat Su Crime stoppers,
(907) 745-3333 or Alaska State Troopers at (907) 352-5401."
It left out, as nearly all do, an important element, the
perspective of the victim.
Scott Alkire turned turned to the
Stop
Valley Thieves group Facebook Monday to share not only his
perspective on the theft, but a picture of his missing sled in
hopes of getting it back.
"I'm FURIOUS AND SICK," he wrote, and with good reason ... he
bought the sled brand new just three days earlier. And he and
his family had purchased the house, including the garage from
which the sled was stolen a mere three months ago.
"WOW is all I can say," he wrote. "Please help."
Not a very warm welcome to a new neighborhood, but he and his
family have to know the theft isn't reflective of the vast
majority of his new neighbors, nor of the community.
If you have any information that might help bring the stolen
property home to its rightful owner, call the numbers above or
give Scott a call direct at (907) 414-2677. |
