Governor Sean Parnell has ordered all state flags to be
lowered to half-staff on Thursday in memory of former
Representative Richard “Dick” Greuel, who died earlier this
month in Minnesota.
He was 85.
Greuel first arrived in Alaska in 1946. He served on the
Fairbanks City Council from 1951 to 1957, was elected to the
Alaska Territorial House of Representatives in 1953, 1955 and
1957.
In 1955, he was elected House majority leader and in 1957,
Greuel served as speaker of the House.
Following his service in the Territorial Legislature, Greuel was
elected to the Fairbanks City Council again in 1974.
He was active in many community organizations, and owned and
operated Greuel Real Estate in Fairbanks for more than 30 years.
He is survived by wife, Patricia, and five children.
State flags will be lowered on Thursday, December 26. Flags
should be returned to full-staff on Friday. |
