Troopers helping keep holidays safe

December 21, 2013
In an effort to ensure people are safely enjoying the upcoming holidays, Alaska State Troopers will join the hustle and bustle on the highways while looking for impaired motorists.

The ramped up effort is part of the “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” national DUI enforcement that goes until January 1. In addition to the robust enforcement, the Department of Public Safety launched its yearly public service announcement with a Christmas jingle urging people to “Call a cab or call a friend/You’ll get home safe tonight.”

Boosting public awareness regarding the dangers of impaired driving, along with other driver behavior issues, helps decrease the number of fatal and serious injury crashes.

Besides looking for impaired drivers, troopers will watch out for speeding, reckless and aggressive driving, as well as driver inattention – all factors that contribute to injury and death on Alaska’s roads.

The public can help keep the roads safe by calling 9-1-1 to Report Every Dangerous Driver Immediately (REDDI).

Enjoy the holidays by celebrating safely and responsibly to help ensure this season is one of joy and happiness.

Funding for the focused enforcement was provided in part by grant sources distributed through the Alaska Highway Safety Office.
