Thanks to the efforts of Alaska State Trooper canine Argo and
his human co-workers, a Wasilla burglary and theft suspect is
warm and safe in jail after spending about an hour in 20-below
temperatures in the woods near Cantwell yesterday.
And by the looks of it, he might be well advised to consider a
different line of work; if convicted of even half what he's
accused of, he's obviously too stupid
to be a thief.
Alaska State Troopers received a report of a vehicle in the
ditch at mile 201 on the Parks Highway at about 2:02 p.m.
December 17, and Troopers learned that their suspect, as the rig
in the ditch proved to have been stolen out of Anchorage, had
hitched a ride with a passing motorist.
When Troopers pulled that vehicle over, the suspect fled on
foot, and made it over two miles before Argo and State Troopers
found him, suffering hypothermia and frostbite.
The man, Samuel Wade, 20, Wasilla, was charged with car theft,
resisting arrest, criminal trespass and disorderly conduct, and
treated by both Cantwell EMS and at Fairbanks Memorial Hospital,
before he was remanded to Fairbanks Correctional Center.
And perhaps a better word for "remanded" would be "returned;"
according to court records, he's accused of escaping a
correctional facility last Saturday.
While none of the cases have yet been adjudicated, Wade is also
facing charges for a vehicle theft July 24, a burglary August 2,
a vehicle theft August 3, and burglaries August 4, 5 and 6, all
allegedly committed this year. |
