REDDI calls nail drunk driver

December 10, 2013
At around 9:18 p.m. Sunday, emergency dispatchers received a series of Report Every Drunk Driver Immediately calls regarding a silver Nissan sedan traveling erratically on the Parks Highway near Wasilla.

Alaska State Troopers caught up withe the rig at Pitman Road, and saw for themselves ... the vehicle weaved over the centerline several times before they hit the lights and pulled the car over.

Inside, they found Annie H. Nam, 34, Wasilla, and determined that she was, indeed, impaired by alcohol.

Nam was arrested for DUI and transported to the Alaska State Trooper Mat-Su West Post where she refused to provide a breath sample as required by law.

She was then remanded to the Mat-Su Pre-Trial Facility, where bail was set at $1,000.

Dangerous drivers risk death and injury not only to themselves, but to other innocent people both in their vehicle or in other vehicles on the road. Reckless, intimidating aggressive behavior are some examples. Drunk, drugged, fatigued driving are others.

This becomes a problem when the dangerous driver illustrates signs of worsening control, which can put the lives of other people at risk.

Signs of dangerous driving may include:
   * Weaving in and out of lanes
   * Driving with windows rolled down in cold weather
   * Passing on curves and double yellow lines
   * Straddling the center line
   * Making wide or high speed turns out of assigned lanes
   * Driving so slowly as to impede other traffic under current conditions
tailgating

Make a REDDI call 911 when you believe there is a risk of death or injury due to dangerous driver behavior. Do not call 911 for minor behaviors that do not appear to cause confusion or risk of death or injury.

Please stop at a safe place or have a passenger make the call, and report the vehicle along with its description and location. Remember, the driver may be ill or intoxicated and shouldn't be on the road. State and local law enforcement agencies will respond as quickly as possible.

Please do your part to drive safely and encourage others to do the same. Remember, the life you save may be your own.
