Arrest in Spirit Lake for local sex crime

The Spirit Lake Police Department has arrested Joseph B. Herbst, age 38, from Spirit Lake, for several counts of lewd conduct with a minor under the age of 16 and one count of delivery of a controlled substance to a minor in Boundary County.

On November 24, the Spirit Lake Police received a complaint of a possible lewd conduct case involving Herbst. Assisted by the Post Falls Police Department, they conducted an investigation which resulted that Herbst had participated in two counts of lewd conduct with a minor under the age of sixteen in Bonners Ferry.

The Spirit Lake Police Department executed an arrest warrant for Herbst's out of Boundary County on the charges, and Herbst was arrested without incident on December 6 from his home in Spirit Lake.

During the investigation, the Spirit Lake Police Department discovered that Herbst was involved in another separate lewd conduct incident with minor under the age of 16 that occurred within the city limits of Spirit Lake.

Herbst is now incarcerated in the Kootenai County jail on three felony counts of lewd conduct with a minor under the age of 16 and one felony count of delivery of a controlled substance to a minor. He is also facing two separate felony counts of lewd conduct with a minor on the Boundary County charges as well.
