Warning issued on Harrison Lake Trail

October 10, 2012
Today a fresh moose carcass was discovered along the Selkirk Crest’s popular Harrison Lake Trail, prompting local Forest Service officials to issue a wildlife hazard warning for the trail.

No conflicts between humans and wildlife have been reported at this time, but members of the public are urged not to use the trail and to avoid traveling within the vicinity of the carcass.

The carcass is located approximately one half mile from the trailhead and is likely to attract wildlife, including predators such as grizzly bears and mountain lions, in the foreseeable future.

It is unknown what caused the moose’s death.

For more information on this trail or general forest conditions members of the public are encouraged to contact the Sandpoint Ranger District at (208) 263-5111 or their local Forest Service office.
