Soldier with local ties killed in Afghanistan

August 8, 2012
Flags were at half-staff today in Boundary County after the family of Ethan Martin, 22, confirmed today that he had been killed while serving in the U.S. Army in Afghanistan.

The military has yet to release details.

Martin attended schools in Boundary County through the 10th grade, and graduated from Lewiston High School in 2009.

He is the son of Harv Martin, the log yard leadman at the Idaho Forest Group Mill, Moyie Springs. Harv's wife, Pam, serves on the crew of Boundary Volunteer Ambulance.

"On August 7, 2012, my son, Ethan, gave the ultimate sacrifice for our great nation," Harv wrote on his Facebook page, according to a family friend. "May God rest his soul. It is with deep regret that I make this post, but with honor also."

Ethan served in the First Squadron, 40th Cavalry Regiment based in Fort Richardson, Alaska.
