Texting and driving now a no-no

June 26, 2012
Idaho is officially the 37th state to prohibit texting while driving as Idaho Code 49-1401A goes into effect July 1.

Under the provision, texting is defined as "engaging in the review of, or manual preparation and transmission of, written communications via handheld wireless devices."

The Idaho State Police issued notice of the provision today, and said that when a trooper sees a violation will take appropriate action. Under the code, violations are an infraction carrying a fine of $81.50.

The measure does not apply to hands-free devices, but does apply whether you are reading a text sent to you or typing up a text to send to someone else.
