Legion sets Memorial Day schedule

May 20, 2012
American Legion Boundary Post 55 is pleased to once again sponsor Bonners Ferry’s annual Memorial Day Parade onMonday, May 28. “Service to Country” is the theme of this year’s event.

The parade will begin from Boundary County Fairgrounds at promptly 10 a.m. All participants are asked to begin staging at the Fairgrounds by 9:30 a.m.

This year’s parade route will proceed from the Fairgrounds past Riverside Auto to Main Street, then south on Main to Railroad Street.

All motorized units are then asked to exit to US 95 if possible and not return to the Fairgrounds. The City of Bonners Ferry has requested that parade participants refrain from throwing candy. If anyone wants to do so, please walk the parade route and hand out candy as you make your way through town.

The annual Memorial Day Service at Grandview Cemetery immediately follows the parade, beginning as soon as all those involved in the service can make their way up to the cemetery.

American Legion members will be placing flags on all veterans’ graves Friday, May 25, starting at 5 p.m. at Grandview Cemetery. The public is cordially invited to join Legion members in that undertaking.

This is an excellent opportunity for young people to become aware of just how many men and women from Boundary County have served our country in the military.
