'Word of the week' by Goad? Say 'yes!' |
January 4, 2012 |
It seems a simple concept, the word "vigilant."
"Keeping careful watch for possible danger or
difficulties."
I ran afoul, though, of one of my favorite
people in the Sheriff' Department, Chief Patrol
Deputy Bobby Goad, who said he's never said such
a word.
Except for Sheriff Greg Sprungl, admin officer
Crystal Denton, chief deputy Rich Stevens,
investigator Dave McClelland, the great people
in dispatch ... and pretty much every one else
on the Sheriff's staff, Bobby Goad is the man I
hold in the highest esteem.
He doesn't like my interpretation of what he
says, because this is a family forum. Out of
respect to this site's readers, I used the word
"vigilant" once, instead of what he really said,
"I WISH THESE PEOPLE WOULD PULL THEIR HEADS OUT
OF THEIR ..." and he mentioned an animal that in
that context might have been frowned upon, but
since I'm talking about donkeys, it's okay that
he said, ASS.
I'm a reporter, I know context. I misrepresnt
words all the time in an attempt to get you, the
reader, to look at the ads that grace these pages.
Mr. Goad, and all those fine people he works
with, are typically first on the scene of the
things I try report on ... their job is much
harder than mine, and usually they tell me, "you
know I can't tell you details!"
But ... BUTT (can I say that?) Deputy Goad made
a mistake.
He said, in light of the running joke, that his
wife suggested that he should contribute to this
journal a "word of the week."
The way he said it, I knew he was joking ...
HOWEVER (that's another word for but) I have an
idea that his idea has merit.
I don't know about those of you who read these
pages, but I'm interested in what he might come
up with ... knowing Deputy Goad, I'm thinking it
will be colorful, informative and fun to read.
I couldn't convince him; he was busy working,
and I'm not a reporter who steps in anyone's way
to shove a microphone or demand an interview ...
what Bobby Goad and all other emergency
resonders do, in this reporter's mind, the
important job; I can spread word as it becomes
available without stepping in their way ... if
I'm vigilant.
But I am wondering, this far down in the story,
how many of the readers of this page agree with
Bobby Goad's wife that it would be a kick in the
ass to learn Sergeant Goad's weekly word? If you'd like
to see it, email
publisher@newsbf.com with the word "goad" in
the subject line. If necessary, with adequate
response, we'll be able to Goad him into it!
Be viglilant, pull your head out of your ... ah,
hell. Just send an email; it will be fun. |
