Local car chase ends in Montana crash
December 1, 2011

At about 10:30 p.m. Wednesday, Bonners Ferry City Police and a Boundary County Sheriff’s deputy initiated a vehicle pursuit of a 1995 Ford Taurus reported to have been stolen in Washington State.

Reaching speeds of more than 100 miles per hour, the vehicle raced out of town, nearly hitting a local deputy's vehicle, before turning at Three Mile and traveling east on Highway 2. As the chase progressed, law enforcement officers in Montana were alerted to the chase, and as the crossed into Montana , where Lincoln County deputies took over the chase, deploying a spike strip in the city of Troy. Despite blowing out tires, the suspect continued east on sparking rims until crashing in Libby, at which point the driver, a juvenile from Ephrata, Washington, was taken into custody.

In addition to charges filed in Montana, the suspect, whose name has not been released due to Montana restrictions on releasing the names of minors, will face additional charges in Boundary County as well as possible grand theft charges in Washington.
