John August Funkhouser, 61,
Naples, was formally
charged with second degree murder Monday for the
shooting death of Anna Carina Jill Old, 43, in
the home they shared at 7163 Deep Creek Loop in
the Moravia
area.
According to court records,
Funkhouser called 911 at 1:45 p.m. Friday, November 4, telling the
dispatcher that he was calling “to report a
murder.” He then told the dispatcher that he’d
shot and killed Anna Old.
When sheriff’s deputies
arrived at the home, they found Old, who
appeared to have been dead for some time, with
wounds that appeared consistent with
Funkhouser’s statement that he’d shot her once
in the back of the head. A search warrant was
obtained and the murder weapon was recovered.
Funkhouser, according to
reports, told both deputies and later an Idaho
State Police investigator that he had committed
the act, and he was taken into custody.
He remains in the Boundary
County Jail in lieu of bond, and a preliminary
hearing has been scheduled in the Boundary
County Court at 1:30 p.m. Friday, November 18, before Judge Don
Swanstrom.
If convicted, he faces
10-years to life in prison.
While relatively new to the
area, Anna was known to ride around the
community on a yellow Harley Davidson
motorcycle, her dog in the sidecar. She was a
vendor at this year’s Farmer’s Market, selling
“whirlygiggers,” stationery, prints, herbs and
basil. Funeral arrangements, under the direction
of the Bonners Ferry Funeral Home, are pending.
