City elections coming up

September 15, 2011
Bonners Ferry Mayor Dave Anderson is going to face challenge, and two city council positions in both Bonners Ferry and Moyie Springs are going to challenged when city voters go to the polls November 8.

There are no county offices on the ballot, and no one challenging either of two fire district chairs, so November 8 in Boundary County is going to be strictly a municpal affair.

In the City of Bonners Ferry, incumbent mayor Dave Anderson is being challenged by Stephen Galbraith.

The City Council has two incumbents, Chris Clark and Connie Wells, facing off against two challengers; Police Chief Rick Alonzo and former city councilman Dave Gray.

There are also two positions for council positions open in Moyie Springs; but only one incumbent; council member Geoff Hollenbeck has not jumped into the running.

Incumbent Terry Johnson faces challenges from Rosanne Smith, Bart Klaus, and Doug Reoch.

In municipal elections, the candidate getting the most votes wins; when there are two positions available, the top two candidates win. There is no head-to-head for a particular seat.

As there were no challenged positions on fire boards, those incumbents will retain their positions and no election will be held.

Election for the city positions take place from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, November 8, with Bonners Ferry City residents voting according to precinct; Valley View precinct at Valley View Elementary, Kootenai, Bonners Ferry and North Bonners Ferry voters casting their ballots at the Fairgrounds Memorial Hall.

As all of Moyie Springs lies within the Moyie Springs precinct, eligible voters there will cast their ballots at Moyie Springs City Hall.

Boundary County will be overseeing the election and tallying the results, and results will be posted as they become available on the county website, www.boundarycountyid.org.
