Locals involved in fatal Libby crash

July 19, 2011
Josh Peters, 29, died in a head-on collision with a logging truck Friday near Libby, Montana.
A collision Friday near Libby involving two Bonners Ferry men claimed the life of one of them, Joshua Richard Peters, 29, who recently moved to Bonners Ferry from Sandpoint, where he grew up, to live with his long-time girlfriend, Stephanie Lederhos.

According to the Montana Highway Patrol, Peters was traveling east on Highway 2 toward Libby Friday  when he crossed the center line and into the path of a Foust Logging truck driven by Todd Smith, also of Bonners Ferry. Smith tried to swerve out of the way, but was unable to avoid the head-on collision.

Smith and his 12-year-old passenger were not injured. According to MHP Sergeant Duane Bowers, neither speed nor alcohol appear to be factors in the collision.

Peters graduated from Sandpoint High School in 2000, and leaves behind two daughters, Julia, 11, and Mackenzie, 5, from a prior marriage. He worked for several years at Litehouse in Sandpoint, before taking a position with Green Gallon Solutions, a firm that recycles used cooking oil to make advanced bio-diesel fuel.

Services were held at 4 p.m. today at the Sandpoint Assembly of God Church, Pastor Brian Noble officiating. His obituary is available here.
