Herndon demonstrates passion and hard work
in his strongly pro-life position

To the Editor:

Scott Herndon has proven to be a frustration to many people in North Idaho. He is an outspoken advocate for life and has been known to confront the soft position many take on abortion. His use of confrontational placards with graphic imagery offended me.

In Coeur d’Alene, where I pastor and serve as ministerial association president, I was asked to pull Scott in and ask him to stop his activities in the Coeur d’Alene area. I did meet with him, the pastoral community met with him, and we found a reasonable and pleasant solution designed to address his mission. Scott stopped his confrontational action and redirected his energy (and passion) in a much more constructive way without compromising his position or message.

Upon meeting Scott, I came to realize that while I did not appreciate his approach, he was an intelligent man who has a passion for life. He uncompromisingly stood for the unborn (and the parents of the unborn) with a conviction lacking in many pulpits, among many legislators, and even among many supporters of the pro-life movement. Frankly, Scott challenged me (a strong pro-life pastor with a semi-numb approach to the protection of human beings whose lives were being taken by the hands and decisions of those who gave no choice to the children who were being prevented any choice at all).

I worked with Scott when he approached the Kootenai County pastors about a ballot initiative to abolish abortion in the state through establishing equity in our state law. In that process, I got to observe Scott work with those who didn’t necessarily agree with him, and I watched him demonstrate patience, perseverance and humility. He rightly worked to cause all of us to see the value of life and why abortion should be abolished in Idaho. I agree with him. Sadly, some have accused Scott of seeking the death penalty for women, men, or doctors who practice or obtain an abortion. That is simply untrue. He was seeking to have the now present Idaho Statute 18-4001 upheld without prohibiting prosecution as stated in Section 18-4016. Scott cares as much for mothers and fathers as he does for their babies.

I also sat in meetings with Scott and North Idaho legislators 18 months ago as he attempted to persuade them to introduce a bill to the Idaho legislature that was similar to his ballot initiative. He was professional and persuasive.

Scott has redirected his energy and intellect by looking toward a position where his passion for life can be coupled together with his otherwise pro-freedom constitutional perspectives. Scott is an intelligent man of honest integrity. He has a terrific grasp of the law and the constitutions of Idaho and of the United States. He is truly a voice for conservative values we all need in this state and country. Therefore, I am writing in support of Scott Herndon for the Idaho Senate in District 1.

Scott has a true understanding of government and the lawful right of state and local government to interpose themselves on behalf of the people against the unlawful acts of higher government. He will stand for the State of Idaho and for those of us who likewise feel the overreaching effects of Federal law and Supreme Court decisions. We need men like Scott Herndon.

I recommend Scott Herndon for the state senate because of his passion for people, for the Constitution, and for his professional approach to working with those who are likewise willing to work with him. I recommend Scott Herndon because his platform emphasizes more state sovereignty, constitutional and proper government, and the protection of the people’s rights to life, liberty, and property. He will serve Idahoans well and will further our republican form of government.

Please consider (or reconsider) Scott Herndon. We may have been discouraged by his earlier methods—but Scott is right!
