Here's a
heartburn ... |

“The
most important service rendered by the press and
the magazines is that of educating people to
approach printed matter with distrust.”
Samuel Butler
We’re off and running with another national
election cycle and an interesting field of
contenders for the GOP crowd who debate tonight.
Seems as though we’re changing front runners
like socks.
Saying a policy won’t work before the policy is
even announced or presented to the public is
going to cost Mr. Romney dearly … and
rightfully, so as I see such childish acts as
one of our major problems in politics today.
Walking out of chambers instead of listening, I
repeat, listening, to a member of another party
is a class act … hey, don’t we pay you people to
stay in chambers and conduct our business of
running this nation?
When are the powers to be going to realize we
need some effective legislation now, not down
the road? I truly fear we’re in for a long ,
long year of mud slinging before we have some
new leadership to lead our nation.
Allow me to get off my political band wagon as
I’m confident we’ll get enough pundit activity
between now and November 2, 2012 to sustain us.
Since the publisher has seen fit to keep me on
line I think I’ll stick my neck out even further
and try a featured theme with each report. Let’s
call it: “Heartburn of the week.”
So, without further ado, here is this week’s
Heartburn subject:
Social Media
Does Facebook give me heartburn? Yes. I’m old
and slow, so it took me awhile to discover
Facebook possesses very little if any, social
value to me … or you. I just don’t like someone
looking over my shoulder when I’m talking to a
friend, period.
Let’s face it good people all; Facebook is
simply a unique piece of software that captures
and correlates personal data (habits) of people
and markets this information to companies so
they can modify or dream up new products to sell
us … there is no true “social” thought or
purpose to Facebook’s programmers' efforts other
than to make money off our big mouths.
I sort of suspect a lot of good relationships
have gone down the drain simply because talking
to a friend is tuned to that friend and, as
such, another friend just may not understand
what was meant by a particular message. Face it,
all your friends do not march to the same
drummer … we seek opinions from our friends,
hence formulating our questions and tailoring
them to a certain, individual friend.
If I want to share something with two
like-thinking friends I use email and simply hit
the cc key. The world does not need my thoughts,
and I lessen the odds of inadvertently offending
a good friend.
This anti-Facebook thought was prompted by an
email I received from Facebook awhile back:
“….we see that you’re having trouble logging
into Facebook. We want to help as your friends
miss talking to you.”
Hey, that is a no brainer simply because I have
problems logging into/onto just about everything
out there in cyber space.
Just heard the charges against Jeremy Hill have
been dropped by the Feds ... settled with a
$1,000 fine. Comes just a couple of days after
the county GOP and Idaho for Wildlife started
putting out flyers for a Jeremy Hill Legal
Defense Fundraiser at Memorial Hall on Friday,
September 3 … Thanks to a rare flash of common
sense that no doubt left more than a few federal
officials flush, it's been cancelled. If you
already bought tickets, don't fret; they'll
refund your money. But you might want to
consider letting them keep it for the next time
such nonsense comes up, and with the growing
number of grizzlies here, it's pretty likely
that it will be sooner rather than later.
A lot going on, get out and watch our new Badger
varsity kick some tail at a home game Friday
night against our northern neighbors,
Lethbridge. A big bike
ride Saturday morning and a demolition derby
that night. If that don't rattle your chain, go
out and rake pine needles.
Got to go, as I have a new puppy who just took
off with one of my Birkenstocks. Take care of
yourself so you can take care of others ...
