The Badgers varsity girls softball team
travelled to face Sandpoint's varsity team in a
double-hearer Tuesday evening, falling dismally
in the opener but roaring back to win game two
7-3 and their first win of the season.
With overcast skies and relatively nice
temperatures, the Bulldogs started out with a
three run rally in the firstst inning, followed
by two runs in the second. With Bonners Ferry
unable to put any runs on the board, Sandpoint
jumped out to an early lead.
Senior Badger pitcher MaKenzie Carle and
freshman catcher Avery Lane accumulated three
strikeouts, two looking in the course of the
game, but the Bulldogs offensive proved too much
for the Badgers with four more runs in the
fourth inning and three more in the sixth,
totaling 12.
The Badgers never gave up though, scoring two
runs late in the sixth inning. Carle and Gabby
Blackmore crossed the plate with RBI's being
credited to Blackmore and Chantel Coon.
The game ended in the sixth due to the 10-run
rule, with a score of 2-12.
The second game started slightly different, with
no score on the board headed into the third
inning.
Freshman Badger pitcher Nicole Donn and senior
catcher Brianna Reasoner worked hard to keep the
game close. In the top of the third, Bonners
scored two; Donn and Serentiy Winey both crossed
the plate with an RBI coming from Carle.
In the bottom of the third, Sandpoint answered
with two runs of their own, with Buchmina and
Jones each scoring one.
The Badgers had a standout inning in the top of
the fifth, batting around the order and scoring
five runs to take a decisive 7-2 lead.
As darkness fell, the ladies fought to get three
quick outs in the bottom of the fifth, only
allowing Sandpoint one more run, ending the game
at 7-3 and giving the Badgers their first
victory of the season.
Nicole Donn also had three strikeouts in the
game.
The next games are scheduled for this Friday,
March 28, in Timberlake at 10 a.m. and
noon. The varsity's current record is 1-3. |
