The Bonners Ferry Lady Badgers basketball team capped off a stellar season with an early morning game today, facing the Marsh Valley Lady Eagles, Arimo, Idaho, at 8:30 a.m. PST, in the consolation round and coming away with a 48-34 win to take fourth place in the Idaho State 3A Championships.

Snake River and Filer play for first and second this afternoon; Parma and Sugar-Salem are playing now for third and fifth.

The Lady Badgers began their quest for a state title February 6, defeating the Priest River Spartans, until then undefeated in the Intermountain League, 45-42, to take the IML District Championship.

They lost a tough match to The Parma Panthers on Thursday, February 14, falling by a single point, 41-40, after leading through most of the first half.

The Badgers jumped out to at 10-6 lead in the first quarter, and both teams put up 12 points in the second, to put the Badgers ahead 22-18 at halftime. The Panthers fought back hard in the third, outshooting the Badgers 13-5 to take the lead, 31-27, going into the final quarter.

The Badgers outscored the Panthers in the fourth, 13-10, just a point shy as the buzzers ended the game.

Desi Minor led the Badger scoring drive, shooting for 12 points; Abby Skeen put up seven, Kendra Merritt and McKenzie MacDonald each shot six, Kerstin Oxford and Jailee Foster each put up three points, Jasmine Hill put up two and Savannah Woods added one.

In game two on Friday, the Badgers once again faced off against their IML rivals, the Priest River Spartans, and scored an even bigger win than the district match, 45-35, but it wasn't easy.

After a slow going first quarter in which both teams scored five points, the Badgers opened up in the second, outshooting the Spartans 12-4 to go into halftime ahead, 17-9.

The Spartans managed to tie it up in the third, shooting nine points and only allowing the Badgers a single point to put the score at 18-all going into the fourth, which turned into a shoot out, both teams putting up 14 points to end regulation tied at 32, forcing overtime.

The Lady Badgers proved their team had stamina, as they romped to victory shooting 13 points and holding Priest River to three for the 45-35 win and the chance to keep playing.

Savannah Woods led all scorers in the game, putting up 13 points; Abby Skeen finished the game with nine, Kendra Merritt and McKenzie MacDonald both hit six points, Kerstin Oxford contributed five and Desi Minor two.

The Badgers outscored Marsh Valley in every quarter of their final state game, led by Kendra Merritt and Savannah Woods, both with 13 points. McKenzie MacDonald added 11, Abby Skeen put up six, Kerstin Oxford and Desi Minor each scored two and Emma Kelly put up one to take the win, against a team whose five starters were all seniors, 48-34.
