Boys soccer squad busy |

The Badger boys soccer team had a busy series
leading up to the first day of school, beating
St. Maries Thursday to keep their league record
perfect, falling Friday in a non-league game to
Kalispell's Stillwater Christian, and ending
with a tie Saturday with Coeur d'Alene JV. In Thursday's home field shut-out, sophomore Steffen Robles put in two headers to put the Badgers on the boards, the first five-minutes in off assist from senior Keaton Tremble, the next at 20 minutes off an assist from freshman Jake Tremble. Jake Tremble scored unassisted goals at 31 minutes and 62 minutes to round out the scoring. On Friday, the Badgers put up a strong fight, again in front of a home crowd, but the SC Cougars, after jumping out to a 2-0 lead early, got another one past goalie Garrett Skeen, who came up with some great saves to keep it close, late in the game. Junior midfielder Jesus Mendez scored an unassisted goal off a Badger corner kick at 56 minutes, and it looked like the Badgers had gained the momentum, but the Cougars got that final goal with 20 minutes left in the game. While the Badgers kept up the pressure with solid play, they were unable to overcome the Cougar defense or find the back of the net. For their third game in three days, the Badgers travelled to Coeur d'Alene High School to take on their JV squad, and Skeen at the goal had an outstanding game, making some spectacular saves, but the game was scoreless until 47 minutes in, when Jake Tremble grabbed a well-placed pass from senior defender Ed Moe and put it through. Adding to the Badger effort, according to coach Ed Moe, was consistent solid play from junior defender/midfielder Cameron Woods. The Badgers were sure they had the game sewn up, but a defensive miscue in the final minutes enabled the Vikings to tie the game up just as the game ended. The Badgers are back on their home turf at 5 p.m. Friday, when they face St. Georges. |
