Badger girls top Kellogg, fall to Timberlake
|
April 2, 2011 |
By Coach Lauren Bartoe
The Bonners Ferry girls softball team was
scheduled to host a season opening tournament,
but due to field conditions, the tourney was
held Saturday at Timberlake.
The Badgers played two games to begin the
season.
The girls started off with against Kellogg,
scoring the winning run in the seventh inning to
top the Wildcats 6-5.
Jordan Porter pitched the first four innings,
recording four strikeouts in the process.
Chelsea Taggart came in for the final three
innings and worked for three strikeouts.
Amanda Riley completed the battery as catcher.
On the offensive side, Taggart went two for four
and Porter went three for four. Kellogg's T.
Ivie and L. Hoven both went two for four.
The second game against Timberlake began with a
slew of errors on defense, which put the Badgers
down 0-5. They rallied with four runs, but lost
14-4.
Porter and Taggart shared the mound with Riley
catching. Taggart hit a home run while going
three for three at the plate. Riley went two for
three.
This is a great beginning, and I expect to see
more great things from these girls as the season
continues.
The Lady Badgers travel to St. Maries Tuesday
for a 4 p.m. match, then head to Troy, Montana,
on Thursday for a 3 p.m. game. They'll play a
double header against Kellogg at home Saturday
at 11 a.m. |
