Shopko Pharmacy to close its doors |
August 18, 2018 |
Employees and customers at the Shopko Pharmacy
in Bonners Ferry learned earlier this week that
the Pharmacy will be closing permanently. The
regular Shopko main store will remain open.
The
Shopko Pharmacy is currently staffed with three
pharmacists and with pharmacy technicians.
August 28 will be the last day of operation
for the Shopko Pharmacy, so the pharmacy will
continue to serve its customers for about two
more weeks. On August 28, the pharmacy will
end its operations at the end of the business
day. Those employees will be looking for other
positions when the pharmacy closes.
The local Bonners Ferry Safeway pharmacy has
arranged to purchase the files from the Shopko
Pharmacy, and will have records available on all
Shopko Pharmacy customers beginning August 29. Shopko customers can continue their pharmacy
services with Safeway, or of course can choose
to establish with any pharmacy they wish. Any
Shopko Pharmacy customer who wishes their
records to be sent elsewhere can contact the
pharmacy and let the staff know. Their records
would be sent to the pharmacy of their choice.
In recent months Shopko has closed in-store
pharmacies in other areas also, including
Nebraska, Montana, Minnesota, Missouri,
Illinois, and others.
Shopko is a privately-owned company, with
headquarters in Wisconsin. The local Bonners
Ferry Shopko Hometown store opened here about
two years ago, in October 2016. Well Life, an
independent pharmacy initially moved into the
Shopko store, and along the way that independent
pharmacy was purchased by Shopko.
