Winter conditions expected to make travel difficult

A winter storm warning remains in effect until 11 a.m., and as the system develops, the outlook continues to grow more grim for those who are traveling in North Idaho and northeastern Washington. Mountain snow and valley rain and snow will change to all snow by this evening. Heavy accumulations are expected north of Deer Park and Athol. Much colder temperatures will occur into early next week. Low temperatures for many areas with drop into the teens. Single digits are possible for the Republic area in northeast Washington Friday night. Expect moderate to heavy snow across the Inland Northwest as cold air along a line from Winthrop, Washington, to Avery, Idaho, will be overrun with moist air associated with low pressure passing through today into Friday. Precipitation will increase by this evening with snow levels down to valleys floors at through Friday morning. Plan on difficult travel conditions, including during the evening commute today and the morning commute on Friday. Additional snow accumulations of four to seven inches, with mountain accumulations up to 21 inches, are expected.
