“With Senator Keough not running for re-election, there is a void to fill," he posted on his website, http://jimwoodwardforsenate.org. "I’m ready to take on the decision-making tasks we face in District 1, looking for common sense, logical and efficient solutions to problems. I will focus on infrastructure and education, two of the main roles of Idaho state government.” Woodward lives in Sagle, where he owns and operates APEX Construction Services, specializing in heavy construction and excavation. He is currently a Northern Lights electric cooperative board member, representing an area in the southwest portion of the electric system from Athol to Priest River. “I look forward to meeting or hearing from as many people as possible in District 1 to understand their ideas and concerns regarding the work of the legislature and how it affects us," he wrote. "My background as a small business owner, combined with government experience earned through 21 years of combined active and reserve naval service, as well as an engineering degree, qualifies me to represent the constituents of District 1.” Woodward is a Republican, running unopposed at this point. The primary election will be held in May, 2018. "Growing up in Bonner County and Boundary County, and having lived here more than three decades, I’ve had the opportunity to learn, work, and play here," he wrote. "I graduated from Bonners Ferry High School and went on to the University of Idaho, where I earned a degree in mechanical engineering. My Idaho education laid the foundation for a career in the Navy, full time initially and as a reservist later, for a total of 21 years of military service. I’ve worked locally in the construction industry since 2000 and owned and operated Apex Construction Services, a heavy construction and excavating company, since 2008." He is an outdoor enthusiast who enjoys hiking, motorcycle riding off-road and on the street, scuba diving, mountain and road bicycling and boating, and in January of this year he added flying to that list, having earned his private pilot licence and racking up over 130 hours of flight time since. Incumbent State Senator Shawn Keough is supporting Woodward. “I endorse Jim Woodward for the Idaho State Senate District One seat," she said. "Jim is a second generation resident of our area, attended our public schools, graduated from the University of Idaho and served our country in the United States Navy. Jim is a small business owner, his wife, Brenda, teaches in our public schools and they are raising their family here. Jim’s deep roots in our area and his commitment to our north Idaho values coupled with his background and service to our country give him the experience needed to represent us in the Idaho State Senate. I support Jim 100 percent and hope you will join me in voting to send him to represent us in Boise.” To learn more about Woodward's candidacy or to give support, visit http://jimwoodwardforsenate.org or his Facebook page, call (208) 946-7963 or write Jim Woodward for Senate, PO Box 151, Sagle, ID 83860. |
