Local crime rate remains steady |

According to statistics compiled by the Idaho
State Police, the total number of crimes
committed in Boundary County was the second
lowest in the past five years, with 147 as
compared to 142 in 2014, and the City of Bonners
Ferry 2016 crimes committed fell in the middle
range, with 153 crimes reported in 2016, down
from 198 reported in 2014 but up from 133
reported in 2012. Neither Bonners Ferry nor Boundary County had a murder or manslaughter in the year just past, but two rapes were reported in the county in 2016, without an arrest, and one was reported in the city, with an adult arrested. In the county, there were four aggravated assaults reported, all cleared, 31 burglaries with just one cleared, and 39 larcenies, with four of those cases cleared. In the city, there were six aggravated assaults reported in 2016, all of them cleared, but drug offenses led the list of crimes reported, with 39 drug offenses reported, all of them cleared, and 40 paraphernalia offenses, also cleared. The city saw 15 burglaries, two cleared, and 27 larcenies, 19 cleared; the county saw four drug offenses and three paraphernalia offenses, all of them cleared. Simple assault was oft reported by both the sheriff and police, with 27 in the county, 22 cases cleared with 17 arrests, one arrest a juvenile, and 13 reported in the city, also all cleared with 12 arrests, two of those arrested being juveniles. Other "Group A" crimes in the county included six vehicle thefts, none cleared, one cleared arson, four cases of intimidation, all cleared, two cases of forgery, neither cleared, 18 cases of vandalism, six cleared, two cases of embezzlement and three of fraud, all still open, and one case of statutory rape, closed with an adult arrested. Other Group A crimes reported in the city included one motor vehicle theft, which was cleared, one case of fraud, still open, one pornography case, which has been cleared, and three cases of fondling, two of them cleared with one adult arrested. In "Group B" crimes, the county saw five adults arrested for DUI, one for trespass and three for other offenses. In the city, 34 adults were arrested for DUI, and 41 adults and one juvenile for all other offenses. |
