Erick Walker, District Ranger of the Sandpoint
Ranger District on the Idaho Panhandle National
Forests, has signed the Treasured Landscapes
Prescribed Fire and Whitebark Pine Restoration
project decision.
The project consists of restoration actions
including vegetation management and fuel
reduction activities with the use of prescribed
fire on National Forest System lands within and
around the Lightning Creek drainage on the
Sandpoint Ranger District.
Project activities may begin this year and
continue over several years. The Idaho Panhandle
National Forests will provide updates as
activities commence and progress.
District Ranger Walker would like to thank all
of the groups and individuals who expressed an
interest in the planning of this project and who
provided suggestions and input in its
development.
The Treasured Landscapes Campaign is a
partnership between the National Forest
Foundation and the Idaho Panhandle National
Forests. The National Forest Foundation
designated the Lightning Creek watershed as a
Treasured Landscape conservation site in 2012.
