Working to identify all Idaho's veteran memorials |
May 23, 2017 |
With Memorial Day coming up, Governor C.L.
“Butch” Otter announced today that the Idaho
Division of Veterans Services has launched an
effort to identify all Idaho monuments and
memorials honoring the military and veterans.
“It’s important for us all to remember with gratitude all those who made the ultimate sacrifice to protect our nation, our people and our way of life,” Otter said. “Communities throughout Idaho pay homage to the courageous men and women who laid down their lives for us. We want to celebrate those local tributes to patriotism and valor that help us never forget the great legacy of our heroes.” In conjunction with Memorial Day observances on Monday, May 29th, the Idaho Division of Veterans Services (IDVS) is utilizing https://www.historypin.org/en/ and seeking assistance from the public and veterans’ service organizations to collect photos, history and stories regarding the many memorials throughout Idaho. Historypin.org is a free online site for people to share historical and contemporary photographs. Uploaded content can be explored using maps and timelines and enriched with the fascinating stories uncovered by local communities. The memorials and monuments project will enable Idahoans to share stories and archive materials while creating a dynamic digital legacy for future generations to view and cherish. To participate in this important project, contact IDVS or view the instructional guide found at http://veterans.idaho.gov/memorials.
