May 23, 2017 |
At about 5:19 p.m. Monday, May 22, Boundary
County Sheriff’s deputies and Boundary Ambulance
responded to Eastport to assist the United
States Border Patrol with a male subject who had
gone into the Moyie River.
The man was unresponsive when he was removed
from the water by Border Patrol agents. Life
saving efforts were attempted at the scene but
were not successful.
Upon further investigation, it was determined
that that the subject was a United States
citizen and had fled from Canadian officials in
Canada. He illegally entered into the United
States when he apparently attempted to swim
across the Moyie River to avoid being detained.
His name and identifying information is being
withheld until his next of kin can be notified. |
