The Bonners Ferry Community Orchestra takes the
stage at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 25, at The Pearl
Theater for their 2017 Spring concert, Spring
Into Summer, conducted by Glenda Novinger.
The
orchestra dedicates their performance to the
memory of Lillie Albertson, whose tireless
commitment and love for music inspired all who
knew her.
The orchestra consists of 15 musicians, playing
music from an eclectic array of composers and
arrangers. Audiences may expect to hear
traditional compositions from Mozart,
Mendelssohn, Strauss and Tchaikovsky, but also
Irish folk pieces and twentieth century
arrangements from Harold Arlen ("The Wizard of
Oz"), Henry Mancini, and John Williams
("Schindler’s List").
Performers include the following string
musicians: Janet Peterson, Robert Dudley, Ann
Kish and Vivian Hazelton on violin, Patty
Burlingame on viola and Carl Dahlberg and Loi
Eberle on cello.
Woodwinds feature Carla Fisher on clarinet,
Kathy Powers on bass clarinet, Claudia Moots on
oboe, Sharon Davis on saxophone and JoAnn
Armstrong on flute. The brass section consists
of trumpet players Lee Jackson and Edwina Smith,
with Robert Saboe on trombone.

Glenda
Novinger |
Glenda Novinger recently took the helm as
conductor. She graduated with honors from East
Illinois University with a Bachelor of Music
degree in Piano Performance and Music Education.
In February of 2016, Glenda published her first
book, and she currently explores several
additional writing projects, like a book titled
"How Music Training Prepares You for Real Life."
The arts community enthusiastically supports her
plans to revive a community children’s choir
this summer. As the owner/operator of Novinger
Music Center and with 40 years of teaching
experience, she’s already developing a solid
reputation for professionalism and expertise.
Glenda attributes her servant leadership
approach to teaching and her zest for life to
her mother, who “taught me to cultivate my gifts
by studying, practicing, performing and teaching
others to do what I could do.”
The Bonners Ferry Community Orchestra would like
to thank the Boundary County Middle School for
the use of their rehearsal facilities and The
Pearl Theater for hosting their performance.
They invite musicians to join them when they
resume rehearsals in September, and they
encourage audience members to support their
ongoing performances with donations at the door.
Making music increases joy and enriches life.
The Pearl Theater is a non-profit organization,
dedicated to fostering the performing arts
throughout Boundary County, located at 7160 Ash
Street in Bonners Ferry, just south of the
Kootenai River Inn Casino. Turn east off of
Highway 95 and look for the steeple.
