USFS seeking hardworking fire personnel |
January 20, 2017 |
U.S. Forest Service Region 4 is looking for a
committed, hardworking, highly skilled workforce
to suppress wildfires and work in fuels
management on 12 National Forests located in
Idaho, Wyoming, Nevada, Utah and California.
They are using the
centralized fire hire process for hiring
permanent fire positions. Fire Hire is a Forest
Service process used to hire the majority of
their permanent workforce in fire management
positions at the GS-5 through GS-8 grade level.
The fire and aviation management program is very
rewarding and requires working safely as part of
a team in a variety of specialized positions,
including dispatch, engine crews, fuels
technicians, handcrews, helitack, hotshot crews,
smokejumpers, and prevention.
The unique feature of this process is the
ability to immediately backfill positions that
have been vacated during the fire hiring
process.
This is not for summer seasonal temporary
positions, and the USFS will also hire fire
apprentices during fire hire.
