Holiday spirit alive and well at BCMS |
December 7, 2016 |
By Principal David Miles II
Our Citizen of the Month results for November
are in. November’s trait was Citizenship. Please
congratulate Dillon Mai sixth, Jenny Owens,
seventh, Kami Bremer, eighth, and Jerry Jiminez,
staff. Next month, December, the trait is
Generosity.
Our
students are still up to good. They have
decorated our lobby with holiday spirit and are
now engaging in the 12 days of gratitude. Each
day challenges students to do something nice to
others and show gratitude.
Some examples are giving somebody random a nice
note and smile at a person you don’t know. They
are also collecting Turkeys and Hams for needy
families in the community through a competition
with the high school through December 22.
They are also creating and then giving to a
lucky person “Jolly Jars” from December 19-22.
These jars are filled with random goodness and
students can donate a quarter for a chance to
win one or more of the jars.
Josh Sundquist recently spoke to our students
about overcoming obstacles and making the best
out of everything. Even negative experiences can
lead to positive outcomes. Students enjoyed the
speaker and the message even though we had to
walk to the high school last minute to catch his
speech.
Debate and Leadership students were also able to
recently listen to another speaker, A’ric
Jackson. I’m still waiting to hear how it went
for them.
Like Chess? So do we. We are currently hosting a
lunchtime chess tournament. It is great to see
students competing during lunch to see who
reigns supreme.
BCMS practiced having a lockdown recently.
Students and staff did an excellent job of
following procedures and we were able to have an
outside observer give tips to improving our
safety at the building. If you have any
questions about safety here at BCMS please call.
Wear a Hat day fundraiser will be on Thursday,
December 8. Students can pay $1 to get a stamp
to wear a hat at school in order to raise money
for holiday turkeys and hams. I bet we see some
interesting hats….
Mid-term for second quarter is Thursday,
December 8. Grades will be sent home with
students on Thursday, December 15.
Wrestling
districts are this Thursday, December 8, in
Kellogg. Our wrestlers have had a fantastic
season and I would not be surprised if our
athletes win the entire meet.
BCMS will host a FIRST Lego League qualifying
tournament on Saturday, December 10, from 4:30
to 7:30 p.m. The community is welcome to stop by
and watch this great event where students
compete by attempting to get a Lego Robot to
perform various tasks.
Basketball will begin Monday, December 12. All
students interested in trying out for one of our
basketball teams will need to have their
paperwork in and begin practice/tryouts on this
day.
Our Bands will be performing their Holiday
Concert on Monday, December 12, at Becker
Auditorium beginning at 7 p.m. Our students
always appreciate when the community supports
their hard work and efforts. The music will be
festive and Mrs. Hanna always ensures the
students put on a great show. You won’t want to
miss it.
Our Choirs will have their Holiday show on
Thursday, December 15, at Becker Auditorium
beginning at 7 p.m. Our students have been
practicing and preparing for some time for this
holiday themed concert. Be sure to come early to
guarantee a seat as Mr. Carpenter generally has
his students singing joyfully.
BCMS will be celebrating the holiday season on
Thursday, December 22, during school hours. We
will have a modified schedule and activities
including crafts and other things to send
students away for winter break. This will also
be ugly sweater day!
Basketball pictures will be on Monday, January
9.
