Never a dull moment at BFHS! |
September 29, 2016 |
By Principal Kevin Dinning With the completion of the fourth week of school coming soon, Bonners Ferry High School’s 2016-2017 school year is definitely in full swing. The staff and students continue to impress me with their willingness to make this place great! BFHS has implemented some changes this year and encountered some speed bumps along the way, but the staff and students have been supportive, solution oriented and positive in finding the best path forward. With the addition of some new students, our enrollment is currently at 446. We look to continue building our enrollment by bolstering our current programs, cooperating with home school students, supporting students through advanced opportunities and promoting Career and Technical Education pathways offering student certification. BFHS has a positive attitude and a shared vision focused on collaboration and doing whatever it takes for our students. We have focused our security procedures at BFHS to center on a single point of entry. All doors, except the front doors at the main office, will be locked during school hours. Students will be able to enter the school through the cafeteria entrance before school and at lunch while administration or a designated staff member will monitor those doors. What can you do to help with school safety? Enter the school through the front doors and check-in at the office. If you see something or someone that seems out of place or suspicious at or near the school, report it. I am committed to increasing the communicatory efforts of BFHS with the community of Boundary County. I encourage you to check out our new page for the counseling department by searching Facebook for BFHS Counselor Staff. Please, continue to check for updates on our school website at http://www.bfhs-bcsd-id.schoolloop.com and our athletics website at http://bfbadgers.com. Noteworthy happenings at BFHS: * Continued teacher and admin attendance at PEAK training opportunities. * Homecoming spirit was at a high level from staff and students as seen at the parade, float builds, hall decorating, Badger Olympics, football game, dance, and pep assembly. Credit to all our staff who put in an overwhelming number of hours to make it happen. Huge kudos to Mrs. Nix and the leadership students for putting on a phenomenal week of activities! * Mr. Knaggs is continuing to facilitate PPTS (project paint the school), focusing on two classroom doorways themed with curriculum-based murals. * Mrs. Hanna and the Jazz Band facilitated a fantastic night of music with The Swing Street Band Concert labeling it a swinging success. * AP Government has been added this year to expand our Advanced Opportunities offerings. * Mr. Nix and the FIRST Robotics Team are nearing completion of a CNC machine to manufacture components for their builds. Team 2130 will be attending a competition in November for LAST year’s game in Spokane. Watch a game teaser for this year’s competition by searching YouTube for “FRC Steamworks.” * The BFHS Honor Choir will be performing “LiceBusters,” a lice prevention program, at the elementary and middle schools very soon. * The North Idaho College campus trip is on October 19. * Idaho College Application Week will be October 31 to November 3. * FAFSA Frenzy Week will be November 7-11. * BFHS will host a school showcase during the month of October. An update on the date will be set, and notifications will go out ASAP. * Badger Awesome is taking hold of our school community, and we will be looking for any opportunity to include the community in our upcoming events.
