School Board considers use of proceeds from sale of Evergreen |

The Board of Boundary County School District 101
is considering how best to use the proceeds from
the sale of the Evergreen School property. The school building and its land sold in August for $300,000, netting $286,499.65 in funds for the district after closing costs. Use of that money was discussed at last night's school board meeting. The board also heard a proposal from Robert Hanover, a citizen who attended the meeting to present some thoughts and recommendations on use of the money. Mr. Hanover recommended the district sell the current administration building at the corner of Oak and Arizona streets, then use the money from that sale along with the proceeds from the Evergreen sale to build a new kindergarten building. He further recommends that the district then move the district office into what is now the current Valley View kindergarten building across the street from the Valley View building. He states the benefits of his proposal include eliminating having the kindergarten students crossing Augusta street, and having the administration office closer to schools and teachers at the South Hill area and more readily accessible for interaction with parents. The school board trustees pointed out that they have set up a Facilities Committee to look at best ways to employ resources for real property of the district. The School Board then passed a motion that the funds from the sale of Evergreen School be dedicated to real property in the district (and they indicated they mean brick and mortar property), and that the Facilities Committee investigate and examine specific recommendations and report their conclusions and recommendations back to the Board. That motion passed unanimously. Once recommendations from the Facilities Committee are received, the Board will give further consideration to use of the money received from the sale of Evergreen School. |
