Idaho Army National Guard helicopter
crashes near Boise
November 7, 2014
At approximately 7:00 p.m. (Mountain Time) yesterday evening on November 6, an Idaho Army National Guard AH-64D Apache helicopter with two pilots aboard crashed during a training mission. The crash scene is approximately 2 miles south of the Boise Airport. The helicopter was based at Gowen Field, which is situated next to the Boise Airport.

Cause of the crash is not known at this time, and an investigation will take place.

 

Killed in the crash were:

Chief Warrant Officer 4 Stien P. Gearhart, 50, of Meridian, Idaho

Chief Warrant Officer 4 Jon L. Hartway, 43, of Kuna, Idaho

Both soldiers were assigned to 1-183rd Attack Reconnaissance Battalion, Idaho Army National Guard, Gowen Field, Boise, Idaho.

“The men and women of the Idaho National Guard are united in grief at the loss of two of our brothers in arms, who gave their lives while training to defend our nation,” said Idaho National Guard Commander, Major General Gary Sayler. “Today, our thoughts and prayers are with their families.”

No other details regarding the crash are available at this time.
