'Between Tower and Sea' coming to the Pearl | |
January 31, 2018 | |
“Between Tower and Sea” incorporates slide and digital photography, film, live music, spoken word, documents, maps and readings to connect stories from Vietnam, Champa and British Columbia. The project draws on Bonnell’s late mother’s extensive collection of slide and print photographs, taken during her years in Vietnam. “Between Tower and Sea” involves original texts, some of Bonnell’s own poetry and essays, as well as quotations and excerpts from a variety of writers. The project explores themes of intersection and fragmentation; origin myths, writing, research, history, disease, war, loss, dislocation, liminal space, the de-canon, creativity and imagination. It reflects Bonnell’s interests in literature, music, international adoption, storytelling, biopolitics, mountains and mountain culture, the sea/ocean, forests and more. Doors open at 1:30 p.m., with the one-hour presentation beginning at 2 p.m. A brief intermission will be followed by an interactive question and answer/workshop session, during which Bonnell hopes to generate a discussion of participants’ potential journeys and creative “project work.” If you are interested in reading Bonnell’s work, his words can be found here. While admission to this event is free, donations are gladly accepted to help cover costs. The Pearl Theater Bistro will be open for refreshments. The Pearl Theater, 7160 Ash Street, Bonners Ferry, is a non-profit organization dedicated to fostering the performing arts throughout Boundary County.
